About Yuki Hanyu

I am an Oxford graduate with a PhD in Chemistry. During my PhD I worked in the field of "nanofabrication", the study of manipulating atoms and molecules. The field spans surface science, organic chemistry and biochemistry. After working as a post-doctoral research staff in Tohoku University for 2010-2012, I worked as a research scientist for Systems Engineering Laboratory, Toshiba Research and Development Center for October 2012 - December 2014. I have worked in public infrastructures team to develop battery-based electric energy storage systems.On January 2015, I have founded a business which in November became Integriculture Inc, a registered company. The company aims to develop large-scale cell culture technology that ultimately leads to "in vitro meat".Personally, I am an intense, intelligent individual with the ability to rapidly absorb new skills and knowledge and develop into innovative ideas. I am a scientific thinker with clear traits of an inventor. It is a spin-off from a citizen science initiative "Shojinmeat Project (https://shojinmeat.com ) that develops open source cell-based meat.Cell-based meat carries high hope as the holy grail to sustainable protein, for which $2T market is at stake. However, the production cost has been prohibitively high. Our patented “CulNet System” cultures cells 4~5 orders of magnitude less expensive to enable us to market cell-based meat at competitive prices. The system requires no externally added growth factors or serum, solving their price, regulatory and public communication problems. The system in principle cultures any cells and produce anything produced by living things. Its astounding versatility makes it ideal for a general platform for clients wanting to produce food, cosmetics, supplements, functional ingredients, pharmaceuticals, and any other biological and agricultural products.
