Emergency Management Officer | Energy Emergency Management Section

Current

As Emergency Management Officer, I undertake daily monitoring of domestic and international energy supply emergencies across the energy sector and support key projects to improve emergency management the impact of natural disasters on the energy industry supply chain, workforce, regulatory body, and economy. Demonstrating highly developed communication skills, I have built key stakeholder relationships across the federal government, relevant jurisdictions and the energy industry and represented the Department in numerous cross-government bodies. In addition, I have generated reports for the Minister and a range of government stakeholders on energy supply incidents, risks and issues and implemented effective energy emergency management policies and processes.During the 2019 – 2020 bushfire crisis in Australia, I delivered timely briefings to the Minister’s Office for Industry, Energy and Emissions Reduction on energy supply emergencies, resulting in commendation for providing quality outcomes whilst managing competing priorities. Our section received the Outstanding Contribution Award and a personal thank you from the Secretary for our work.Demonstrating my strong stakeholder management and communication skills, in August 2021 I successfully facilitated the border crossing of an essential worker from NSW to the Northern Territory at a time when border crossings were highly regulated and restricted during COVID-19. To achieve this, I negotiated with numerous stakeholders to seek approval for relocating the worker to the NT for four months to manage the critical infrastructure of the Northern Gas Pipeline near Tennant Creek. After successfully communicating the risks and benefits and emphasising the importance of essential services to the broader community, the essential worker was granted permission to relocate to maintain the pipeline’s infrastructure as a critical component of Australia’s energy supply.
