About Yusef Abdol-Hamid
➡️ Who I Am ⬅️ I’m a meticulous and knowledgeable individual within the underwriting sector, currently working within mortgage underwriting. I’m well-known for my organization and prioritization skills, having never missed a deadline throughout my career, and I’m very adaptable, ready to learn new things and apply them to ongoing responsibilities. In all my efforts, I strive for objectivity and accuracy.🕵️ I’m Detail-Oriented 👀The nature of underwriting means that every case is different, and new situations requiring individual focus will always arise. I believe it’s always important to approach each case with an open mind and a readiness to analyze deeper than the expected scope, so that each case’s story can be understood more fully. Once complete, I make sure to bring forward anything I’ve learned to future endeavors. My commitment to exploring cases in detail has previously averted negative impact, and aside from one instance early in my career, quality control reviews have always found zero infractions in my work.➜ I’m a Guideline Expert ❗️Regulations are always changing, as is the landscape of the context that informs underwriting. It’s important to keep up with both, so that when new guidelines or regulations come into play, or when pre-existing ones are altered in any way, I not only understand them but also understand why. This has resulted in me being frequently regarded as a point of contact between client and department, as well as someone that peers and superiors can turn to, on matters relating to guidelines and regulations. I also have trained junior underwriters and other professionals on such matters.📞 Want to learn more about me and my career? I’m always eager to expand my network! Underwriter
✅ The Role ✅In my latest job, I provided third-party underwriting services using the proprietary systems provided by our clients. In addition, I adapted certain processes and provided feedback based on the needs and guidelines of our clients on an individual basis.📝 Responsibilities 📝👉 I conducted comprehensive and detailed initial and final conventional loan file decisions with capacity for at least 2 initial reviews (IRs) per day. As part of this, I analyzed income and debt calculations as well as credit history, and performed qualifying income analysis and risk assessment using financial record sources. These included pay stubs, W-2s, tax returns and transcripts (both personal and business), bank statements, profit and loss statements, and investment properties.👉 I also determined qualification and compliance based on Freddie Mac/Fannie Mae guidelines and company policies and added conditions for approval before final review if needed.👉 I reviewed loan documentation, appraisal, and title reports for authenticity and potential fraud. I also assessed them for risk.👉 As part of these services, I assisted loan officers and processors on matters relating to required documentation, investor guidelines, and calculating available income/assets. 👉 I communicated with processors/originators both within HCLTech and on the client’s side to complete conditions.👉 Furthermore, I also provided explanations of guidelines and underwriting decisions.⭐ Achievements ⭐🥇 While working here, I earned my NMLS Mortgage Loan Officer License (#2349578) for the following states: Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.🥇 Quality control reviews into my work have always found zero infractions. At times, when reviewers believed they have discovered one, I was able to clarify matters and rectify erroneous findings.
Underwriter
✅ The Role ✅Wanting to widen the scope of my experience outside of one single employer, and also moving from Southern California to Northern California for personal reasons, I began underwriting remotely for Better Mortgages. Principally, I decided on initial and final credit approval, with capacity for at least 60 IRs per month.📝 Responsibilities 📝👉 I performed income analysis of various types and complexity. These included income from self-employment, interest/distributions, and real estate owned (REO).👉 I coordinated with numerous processors, title officers, insurance officers, and other related figures to acquire any relevant documentation required to make the best possible decision per each case.👉 Additionally, I provided mentoring for these figures to answer any guideline/qualification questions they had.👉 I composed detailed reports for adverse files, which explained both my findings and potential avenues borrowers had for approval.👉 I reviewed underwriting conditions, suspense conditions, and quality control findings throughout the loan process to meet both closings and daily service level agreements (SLAs).⭐ Achievements ⭐🥇 Quality control reviews found zero infractions on my efforts.🥇 In one notable case, I uncovered undisclosed asset ownership, as the borrower hadn’t disclosed some land they owned on their application; I only found this land after searching public records under the borrower’s name. This prevented negative impact from investors, had this land not been discovered and subsequently come up on an audit.
Mortgage Underwriter
✅The Role✅My 1st underwriting job after university: qualifying income analysis & risk assessment for up to 40 loans a month ruling on qualification & compliance. When I moved on, I gave 3 weeks’ notice so my duties would be distributed to others based on a list I provided.📝Duties📝👉I reviewed loan documentation, appraisal & title reports, and generated disclosures, loan estimates, closing disclosures, rate lock confirmations & final closing documents.👉I coordinated with title companies to ensure matching disclosures.👉I led guideline training of processors, originators & junior underwriters.👉I organized & managed the quarterly & annual reporting process for regulatory bodies (HMDA, NMLS & MBA); I regularly generated, completed, reviewed & submitted reports.👉I coordinated with production, management, servicing & accounting departments to compile all required reporting data.👉I created & maintained spreadsheets & templates for organizing data.👉Additional auditing duties: I created reports, compiled documents & completed questionnaires requested for state examinations, quality control & internal audits; I reviewed audit files for accuracy & completion and adjusted the loan process based on findings and auditor suggestions.👉Until Feb 2018, I contacted clients to discuss home mortgage procedures, requested & processed all documents, and coordinated with all parties (buyer, title company, appraiser, etc.) to ensure closing by the planned signing dates.⭐Successes⭐🥇I led the restructuring & streamlining of the month-long quarterly reporting process, including quarterly management of a team to keep to monthly report deadlines.🥇I was selected to lead training on guidelines & procedures.🥇I also trained staff in cloud-based document storage in the COVID-19 pandemic so that work continued.🥇I introduced new systems for streamlining production: eDisclosures, eSignatures, appraisal management services, and income & asset verification services.
