Yusef Aziz's life has been intertwined with the rhythm of basketball since childhood, following in the footsteps of his father, the esteemed NBA player Zaid Abdul-Aziz. Originally from Seattle, Washington, Yusef embarked on a remarkable 14-year professional basketball journey that took him across continents, from the arenas of The Netherlands and Brazil to the basketball courts of Kuwait and Qatar. In 2008, Yusef co-founded Back 2 Basics Kids Foundation, Inc. an Atlanta, GA based non-profit organization that provided educational and athletic opportunities for under privileged kids. He served as the Executive Director for eight years, overseeing a board of directors and five annual programs. Transitioning from player to mentor, Yusef furthered his dedication to the sport by earning a Master’s Degree in Education from the College of New Jersey. In 2015, he officially commenced his basketball coaching career at Texas A&M University-Qatar, where his leadership propelled the Men’s team to win two HBKU Championships.Yusef's first visit to Rwanda in 2018 ignited a profound connection to the country's potential, leading to the establishment of Azomco Global in 2022. Based in Bugesera, Rwanda, Azomco Global has quickly emerged as a prominent leader in the African basketball space, a testament to Yusef's extensive global travels, illustrious playing career, and educational background.Starting a new business is typically a challenge, but starting a new business in a foreign country could be very daring. However, Yusef understands success can only be achieved when you are courageous enough to fail. This belief has provided him with the ability to confidently lead teams in high-pressure situations.Throughout the past decade, Coach Yusef has dedicated himself to fostering basketball talent on an international scale, conducting clinics across the Middle East and Africa. His commitment to the sport, coupled with his innate ability to inspire and mentor, continues to shape the lives of aspiring athletes, leaving an impactful mark on the world of basketball.
