Teaching Economics and Business courses at GCSE, AS and A2 level at Herschel Grammar School, a successful, high-achieving and heavily over-subscribed grammar school until end of July 2014.I ensure I keep up-to-date with developments in teaching techniques and educational policy. I am particularly interested in how new learning technology and social media can be used in classrooms and how to ensure students develop the skills needed for employment and higher education. I am passionate about my subjects, I endeavour to encourage and enthuse my students to develop a similar passion in Economics and Business, and the impact on the societies and environments we live in.I joined the school in January 2014 as a long-time supply teacher. I was made a permanent member of staff as of May 2014.

I taught across a range of academic and vocational economics, business studies and accounting courses at Level 3 (A Level and BTEC National) and Level 1 and 2 (Foundation Learning, GCSE and BTEC First) and the AQA Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). I helped coach cricket as an enrichment activity and worked with budding journalists writing for the Young Guardian. I organised a visit by Angel Adoree (Angela Newman), who successfully pitched her business, the Vintage Patisserie, on Dragon’s Den. I pitched and wrote an article about her visit which was published in a local newspaper.External CPD courses attended: Two courses run by Lighthouse Training: Effective Coaching and Mentoring and Being an Effective Sixth-Form Tutor. Attended Festival of Education 2012 at Wellington College, where I focused on events and seminars on how to implement new technologies and social media in education, and the skills which employers need students to be equipped with for employment.Internal CPD courses attended: using SIMs, how Moodle and collaborative virtual learning environments can further student progress, safeguarding and child protection, working with vulnerable students, differentiation strategies and techniques, effective assessment for learning, Every Child Matters and its implications in schools, writing effective reports, helping students make the transition from Level 2 to Level 3, fostering independent learning, improving student’s behaviour for learning, how to design and assess BTEC assignments, how to manage difficult conversations, how to be an effective EPQ supervisor, improving students’ literacy and numeracy. Studied for a PGCE Secondary (Business)This core course content included the study of education policy and assessment framework, implications of child protection and Every Child Matters, classroom technique and theories of learning and education. The subject specific content focused more on the subject matter of Economics and Business Studies courses, how to deliver lessons, develop lesson plans and produce schemes of work. Teaching practice was completed at Sidney Stringer School and Coventry Blue Coat.

I was responsible for researching and identifying trends in markets and different industries to develop the report’s subject matter, creating media kits and marketing collateral, generating interest in and securing advertising/sponsorship revenue and designing the report’s layout. The role required maintaining relationships and regular contact with businesses and trade associations, media buyers, PR and advertising agencies, commissioned journalists and designers. I was responsible for any final re-writing, editing, proofreading and making amendments to layout and finding ways to publicise and increase the impact of my reports before and after publication.

This role included cultivating new and maintaining current advertising revenue for the Monitor, a monthly magazine distributed to elected parliamentarians, senior civil servants and political journalists. This required keeping up to date with new government initiatives and changes to policy. This understanding helped to persuade potential advertisers who would like to influence policy direction and developments.

This role was very similar to that at Raconteur Media (see above) I was directly responsible for researching and identifying trends in markets and different industries to develop the report’s subject matter, creating media kits and marketing collateral, generating interest in and securing advertising/sponsorship revenue and designing the report’s layout. The role required maintaining relationships and regular contact with businesses and trade associations, media buyers, PR and advertising agencies, commissioned journalists and designers. I was responsible for any final re-writing, editing, proofreading and making amendments to layout and finding ways to publicise and increase the impact of my reports before and after publication.During my time there, I had two special reports published, one on Fractional Ownership and another on Credit Management, both of which were inserted within the Times newspaper.

The role required meeting with clients, report back on our work and to plan future activity on their behalf, as well as cultivating relationships with key journalists and analysts covering our clients’ industries.During my time there, I was able to contribute the agency's success in increasing the media coverage, speaking opportunities and writing thought leadership pieces for a leading open-source internet browser, a producer of educational games and a customer relationship management software provider.

The role required meeting with clients, report back on our work and to plan future activity on their behalf, as well as cultivating relationships with key journalists and analysts covering our clients’ industries.During my year at Eclat, I am most proud of organising a press tour of the Indian headquarters of the global IT solutions provider, which led to securing coverage in Newsweek and Economist.com for its CSR actitivity and coverage in Information Age and silicon.com for its core business activity, I was also delighted to help a small new technology client to win a Frost & Sullivan award.
