About Stephen Messimer
Recently, I have been seeking out avionics positions to restart my career in avionics. In particular, I have been looking for jobs similar to “C and D Checks,” and “Completion/Mod Center” positions, since these are an easier route back into the profession. I think more experience in avionics would be an excellent supplement to my overall experience, and could come to define a major shift in my career. My most recent degree is in Technical Writing, which field compliments my other technical experience quite well. I eventually hope to get a position as a technical writer for a technology company, or land a position as an engineer’s assistant, where I can streamline the writing of work instructions, test procedures, or any applicable documentation. In the past few years, I have been tweaking my writing to stay current and effective in written communication. Request samples from my portfolio if interested. As previously implied, the major thrust of my experience is in electronics, avionics, and computers (owing to my experience in the Air Force, with Defense Contractors, and with Siemens Electronics, RF, and Large Drives). I have worked under the following job titles over my long career: Avionics Technician, Electronics Test Technician, Electrical Engineering Technician, Solder Technician, Cable Assembly Technician, and Computer Networking and Hardware Intern. These experiences have gained me the following proficiencies: Aircraft inspection, Avionics subassembly and systems, Navigation and controls, Schematics, Wiring Diagrams, Technical orders and publications, Troubleshooting and fixing, Aircraft installation, Medium Voltage / High Voltage, Advanced Soldering, RF transmission, Shock and Environmental testing (including oven and liquid nitrogen usage), Oscilloscope, Voltmeter, Spectrum Analyzer, Power supply, Large transformer and back-feeding, Hipotting, AC / DC, Board-level and system-wide troubleshooting and fixing, Basic programming, Microsoft and IBM compatible hardware/software.
Listed skills include English Writing/Proofreading, Electronics Technician, Technical Writing, Aircraft Maintenance, and 20 others.

Electronics Technician Iii
CurrentThe role requires knowledge of sonar, solid-state lasers, and radio-frequency electronics. More specifically, I test, troubleshoot, program, and fix electronic subassemblies using network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, huntrons, oscilloscopes, signal generators, flukemeters, meggers, hipot testers, etc. My role demands self-management, frequent communication with assemblers/engineers, and process oversight, all being traits critical for mission success. Before Lockheed Martin, I worked mostly in analog and high-voltage applications; this new role gives me a chance to gain more experience and build expertise with digital electronics and cutting-edge assemblies and systems.
Electrical Engineering Technician Ii
Calibrated, tested, and troubleshot radio-frequency equipment, such as transmitters, antennas, CTVs, transponders, and receivers. These devices were designed as a cohesive system to act as an automated speed and location verifier for train and subway systems, including some well known companies: Amtrak, CSX, Genesee, etc. My job mostly involved tuning and fixing antennas, tuning and finals on CTVs, maintaining a matched impedance between devices, acceptance test and repair of related PCBs, shock testing, final testing of second-party and field test equipment, some QA and R&D experience, and testing track receivers.
Field Services Engineer
Installation, configuration, electrical, and mechanical setup of Amada sheet metal cutting and automation equipment. Travelled to metal-working customers, mostly in the northeastern USA, and organized and installed the product. Also worked on PLC ladder logic, preventative maintenance, and repairs for customers under warrantee.
Electronic Test Technician
Programmed, troubleshot, and fixed pneumatic and electronics systems on APMs. Manually operated APMs (automated people movers) ensuring their correct operation. Tasked with safe application of high DC voltages and power, including 750 VDC.

Electrical Engineering Technician I
Tested, inspected, and fixed newly manufactured drives for Industrial motors (fracking, oil-rigs, mining, nuclear power plants, etc.). Worked mostly on Medium-Voltage Drives (3160 VAC input, variable output), which required related safety guidance and knowledge specific to high-power devices. Assisted in manufacturing, Lean, and 5S initiatives, and teamed up with Electrical Engineers to verify that all products meet functional and safety standards. Performed some programming and coding on computerized systems responsible for controlling the drive. Worked on switch gears and acquired many hours of experience running heavy industrial motors with said drives.
Substitute Teacher
Taught kindergarten through twelfth-grade students in a variety of different subjects. Assisted during teachers’ absence with all manner of activities.
Esl English Teacher
Instructed beginner ESL students and other adult learners in the English language. Supervised Penn State University student teachers while teaching an Intermediate English class. Prepared advanced ESL students for the iBT and paper-based TOEFL exams.
Circuit Card Repair Technician
Diagnosed technical issues and faults with vehicle cluster, gauge, and speedometer units. Performed preventative maintenance and fixes by resoldering electronic subassemblies (cold-solder joints).
Writing Tutor
Guided struggling writers to improve syntax, grammar, and English composition. Mentored other tutors as they perfected several unique ways of inspiring fellow students. Accomplished the most tutoring hours worked during the spring semester of 2016.
Dry-Etch Manufacturing Technician
Oversaw, scheduled, and troubleshot the automated etching of computer processors. This was more about maintaining the CPU etchers, and not about direct contact with semiconductors.
Cable Assembly Technician
Assisted in the Organization of a Night Shift Cable Assembly Crew for increased production. Helped train/guide those less efficient in electronic techniques and fundamentals.
Electronics Test Technician
Tested, Troubleshot, and Fixed Electronics for a local Defense Contractor. I specifically worked on the AMRAAM missile guidance system. Helped reduce 30% product return rate to 15% return rate of tested units.
Ifcs Journeyman
Tested, Troubleshot, Inspected, and Fixed Avionics subassemblies and systems for the Military. Saved over $300K in exchange costs by successfully diagnosing and fixing numerous aircraft systems and subassemblies.
