We all recognized that the replacement wasn't going to make anybody (Yvette or Xerox or the Financial Guys or the Customer rich), but it did have a lot of attractive features, not the least of which was that it fit naturally into the development program the Customer wanted to follow, and it was what had already received Customer Management and Board approval for acquisition. I'm sure Yvette had already bitten an inch and a half off the end of her tongue as she kept calling and emailing and try to get the deal completed; she stayed remarkably cool and civil throughout the ordeal. Yvette was determined to Do The Right Thing as justifiably what her Customer deserved to get, and would look back [on] when it came time to place future orders. (I seem to recall that in a side conversation, Yvette's manager had already blessed, to my ears, letting such a short-term non-remunerative transaction fail due to systematic lackings of synchronicity and workability...) But anyway, Yvette took me up on my offer (I take full responsibility for any shortsightedness of squeezing the last drop of blood from the turnip) to keep slogging through the morass on this one, and we finally got a senior, West Coast, Xerox Graybeard to work with us on understanding what was happening: the "approved" configuration had evolved from when it had first been installed, and the ProfitQuiX program's reference database had not [yet] been maintained with regard to the old equipment and new corporate financial strategies. We collaborated to get the original, legitimate configuration entered into the database so that the evaluation subroutines which determined what Xerox Financial could allow to proceed would pass on it.
