Yvette Walker is a solutions-focused dean who uses team building to create synergistic relationships in the academic digital sphere. What does that all mean?Well, for one thing, it means the world of media is changing. My career has evolved from strictly a newspaper journalist, and continues to change. Collaborative work across the media disciplines is invaluable and critical to our survival.I've worked as a reporter, editor, trainer, ombudsman, manager and newsroom executive. Now I'm an asst. dean at a top 10 media college, I teach media literacy and previously had been named a chair of Media Ethics at a local university.In recent years I have had the opportunity to redesign a newspaper, but also managed blogs and niche publications. I shoot video, record podcasts and make slideshows.My outside interests include training the next generation of journalists. In the past that meant managing high school journalism camps. Now, it's teaching and mentoring upper-level college students. This is a very important endeavor, and one that more professionals should give time to. We need to cultivate our young people who have an interest in this field.Diversity has been an area of expertise for me, not only because I am a black female in the media industry, but also because I understand that all people do not look alike, think alike, work alike or consume news and information alike.Specialties: Multimedia news presentation, front page news editing and design, story packaging, lifestyle trends and entertainment coverage, newsroom coaching and training, diversity training and minority affairs coverage.
