-Coordinated research project concerning pediatric asthma and obesity for the Genetic Medicine Research department-Acted as liaison between the Pulmonology Department, the Clinical Research Unit and the families of study participants-Screened medical records to contact and recruit potential research study participants-Registered participants for study visits using REDCap software-Carried out cell culture experiments on over 100 participant samples: Ficoll isolation for PBMCs, T-cell separation, cell staining procedures, human serum extraction from whole blood, freeze/store cells for future experiments, plate cells for overnight incubation, perform cell counts using a hemocytometer, maintain a detailed record of data in a laboratory notebook-Conducted research study visits: obtain consent from participants/legal guardians to participate in study, perform allergy skin prick tests on patient, collect nasal swabs, record participants’ blood pressure, pulse rate and body measurements, collect personal information through interviews and health questionnaires, ensure families are compensated for time and effort-Conducted study visits with patients in Spanish when necessary-Used GraphPad PRISM statistical software to analyze amino acid concentrations obtained from human serum samples (correlation, ANOVA and normality tests)

-Listed as co-author of article abstract, “Activation of PACAP expression in mouse RTN neurons at birth protects postnatal breathing” published in the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB)-Used microscopy imaging to perform cell counts on mice brain tissue and kept record of observed data-Analyzed breathing patterns of apneic laboratory mice and organized data into excel-Gained experience using mice brain slicing machines to collect tissue samples for microscope slides -Observed how to prepare solutions for laboratory use -Performed various laboratory tasks under direction of research physician

-Shadowed surgeons inside hospital operating room as they performed coronary artery bypass surgeries -Shadowed residents as they interacted with patients
