During my time as a classroom teacher, I’ve loved creating fun, inspiring and original lessons that engage children and help them to reach their full potential as learners in a safe and nurturing environment. After almost 20 years of teaching, I have combined my passion for music and creativity with my teaching experience and now teach music in a Primary School to children from Reception to Year 6. Over the years, I have designed a music curriculum that combines original ideas alongside produced resources which I have found to work well in the classroom, including the use of computer software. These lessons are carefully sequenced to ensure children make progress in music from Reception right through to Year 6, while providing the children with opportunities to ignite their imagination and use their creative flair in a safe and nurturing environment. During lockdown, I created and delivered a series of online music lessons for each year group that showed progression and included materials for children to use at home. During this time, it was vital to stay self-motivated and ensure the content was ready on time. I wanted to cover the curriculum in a fun, engaging and accessible way, so I took time to record original videos and voiceovers that children and their families could enjoy learning together at home which meant the content had to be clear, well presented and easy to understand for children and families of all abilities, background and prior experiences. The feedback from these lessons was very positive with parents saying it was one of the lessons they looked forward to each week. Being a reflective practitioner is essential to my own career development and I am always keen to share ideas with and learn from other members of staff to promote and generate best practice. I pride myself in being someone who is approachable, supportive, fun and creative and as a result have always enjoyed happy working relationships with my colleagues. Being a teacher requires me to be flexible every day as new challenges are presented in each classroom which may include last minute changes to timetables, challenging behavior, supporting pupils, covering staff and meeting with parents. I also have to think quickly to solve problems on the spot, especially if IT systems fail when it's necessary to remain composed and come up with an alternative solution to the problems presented. I am a reliable, enthusiastic, flexible and encouraging member of any team and am keen to use my creative flair and attention to detail in any project that I set my mind to.
