My first recruiting position and my first commissioned sales role. While I was ultimately recruited into Jobot, I'll forever be grateful for this opportunity - it changed the trajectory of my career. A friend referred me into this entry-level role where I supported Recruiters and Account Managers on the financial health of their clients' accounts. Luckily all my years teaching and coaching equipped me with some great communication skills that I leveraged to clean up client accounts, but this role still taught me a lot! I learned the ins and outs of contract vs. permanent placement, how the back-office operations at a recruiting firm work, and what red flags to look out for in a prospect.I managed an accounts receivable of roughly $3.5M and was responsible for invoicing roughly 400 accounts per week, as well as collecting and managing the aging for those accounts. My wife was offered a role out here in Colorado and we relocated, hence the short tenure. Little did I know at the time, moving would turn out to be the best thing I ever did for my career!Notable achievements:• Developed a process improvement through Microsoft Access that digitized a formerly manual invoice splitting process that previously took ~far too much time~• Cleaned up problematic accounts and reduced aging prior to my exit• Offered promotion to Supervisor to get me to stay in Florida and not move to Colorado (while I was grateful for the offer, I didn’t accept. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Fitness Facility (more below ↓)After graduate school I took a trip to Florida to visit my parents. While there, I was offered a job at a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & Fitness facility I began training at back in 2012. For context, I had been coaching sports since 2008 and coached Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in college at Marcio Cruz Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy (Tampa, FL) as well as during graduate school at One Academy HQ (Athens, OH). I love teaching and, having just turned away from academia, I jumped at the opportunity to continue pursuing a passion of mine.I coached the adult fundamentals program as well as two separate kids classes (ages 3-6 & 7-12). I was also responsible for new contract generation & renewals. This role helped me sharpen my negotiation-chops. The ultimate goal was to open up my own gym. My first professional employment out of college. I initially wanted to become a philosophy professor and do research on environmental ethics, political philosophy, and metaethics. The realities of job prospects in academia led me to exit academia after completing my Master's degree, but to this day teaching at the collegiate level remains my favorite job I've ever had. It was an absolute joy and it laid the foundation for my professional career.I started out as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for my first two semesters supporting a lecture hall class of roughly 120 students in Formal Logic.
