Software engineer with 4 YOE in application development and data engineering.The longer version:I learned to code when I was 8 -- my mom had worked as the PR person for Bell Labs when they wrote Unix and C. She encouraged me to get started with programming. I studied linguistic anthropology at Vanderbilt and spent three years during college working in two labs, one focused on language acquisition and the other on neurogenomics, originally intending to have a career in cognitive science. My father was a neuroscience researcher and I had given thought to following that route.After college, I worked in politics for a decade, managing in 6 states and eventually spending the last 4 years of that doing data engineering in the space. I founded a company to try and give some of that accumulated knowledge back to the space as better software.I've worked as a full-stack engineer, with experience in both application development and data engineering, using Javascript and Python and db experience with Postgres, Snowflake, Bigquery, and Clickhouse, as well as tools like Terraform, Docker, React, state management and e2e testing libraries, Airflow, Pandas, and observability and tracing with Datadog, Grafana and Prometheus. I've been a tech lead on reliability and on-call teams.
