The Eagle Fund at Florida Gulf Coast University is an applied investments class where students, under faculty guidance, run three portfolios of investments (equity and fixed income) for the FGCU Foundation. During this class, students participate in quantitative stock screening, portfolio back testing, fundamental research, financial statement modeling and company valuation assessment. They produce fundamental research reports recommending purchase of individual stocks and bonds, which are subsequently added to the respective portfolios. Additional aspects of this course involve extensive usage of the Bloomberg terminal, meeting with investment professional practitioners, attending CFA society events, and making a portfolio review presentation to the FGCU Foundation Finance Committee.
