As a psychology and neuroscience alumni from UW - Parkside, I had the pleasure of working in a behavioral neuroscience lab that studies the delicate relationship between the brain and behavior. Specifically, we researched how the connection between the brain's reward pathway and brain areas associated with feeding can be altered to cure eating disorders such as obesity and anorexia.Since research means nothing if it isn't shared, I have had the privilege of presenting all over the state of Wisconsin at events such as Science Night at UW - Parkside, WiSys SPARK Symposium at UW - Oshkosh, and Research in the Rotunda at Wisconsin’s State Capitol building, and UW - Parkside’s WiSys Quick Pitch and Student Showcase. I've also presented out of state at NCUR in Long Beach, CA.Before I found my passion for neuroscience research, I explored opportunities in fast-food, manufacturing, rehabilitation, and health care. Although these experiences were not what I was looking for in a career, the skills I developed are invaluable. Teamwork, adaptability, organization, and problem-solving are just a few of the skills I developed while discovering my passion that was a life-saver working in the lab.
