I am clerking for a judge at Los Angeles Superior Court, Stanley Mosk Courthouse. My primary responsibilities are to review and analyze law and motion matters, research legal issues raised within the matters, draft proposed tentative rulings, modify the rulings as necessary based on arguments raised at the hearings or feedback from the judicial officer, and handle additional research projects that are requested by the judicial officer.Despite the disruption caused by the pandemic and the shutdown, I maintained my productivity by diligently working ahead on continued matters and completing training courses. I have been told that I am approachable, responsive, and receptive to feedback. I always strive to take the initiative to reach out to my supervisor when I have a question about a legal or administrative matter.

In my capacity as a law clerk, I thoroughly researched Federal and State class-action law to assess the advantages and disadvantages of bringing certain actions. I accompanied lawyers to depositions regularly. I assembled a list of potential class-action clients. A highlight of my tenure was assisting in the writing of a demand letter for the collection of $187,000 in legal fees for the client.

This was a four-week-long civil trial that I had the honor of clerking for the lead attorney in the case. My main duties were to coordinate the preparation of witnesses, track all evidentiary exhibits, and research legal issues raised in court. I also drafted memoranda for the lead attorney and assisted in drafting motions for the court. I also assisted in writing the post-trial statement of decision that was submitted to the court.

I spent a semester as an extern in Washington D.C. researching complex legal issues surrounding Cryptocurrency and BDC’s. I assisted the attorneys in conducting witness testimony, reviewed that testimony, and wrote summary reports for them. I received positive feedback and recommendations from Nancy Hunt, the program director of Pepperdine Law's Washington D.C program, and John J. Rossetti, a Senior Counsel for the Enforcement Division.My personal highlight was drafting a memorandum analyzing the issues, facts, and law, in a case that has since ended in a $4 million settlement with the defendant.

I researched case law, statutes, and legislative history to defeat a specific piece of legislation. I accompanied attorneys to court to witness court proceedings firsthand. A highlight of my time working for the City Attorney was when I communicated an argument to my supervisor regarding misdemeanor diversion and animal cruelty. Specifically, I pointed out that because animal cruelty is a wobbler offense (chargeable as either a felon or a misdemeanor), if the City Attorney charged the case as a felony, it would no longer be eligible for diversion even if a judge later decided it was a misdemeanor because it was initially brought as a felony.
