In addition to this I aided the students in the acquisition and analysis of IR spectra using an ATR FTIR instrument. The Royal Society of Edinburgh:I assisted in a Cluedo style event which allowed for young school children to take part in various forensic style experiments (as part of an outreach event) within a laboratory environment, to help uncover the murderer.

Postgraduate Research Executive Representative
Director Of Education
Elected by the student body, I represented all 9000+ students’ academic interests at the University, advocating on the areas of learning, teaching, PG studies, and employability. I trained and supported a team of 21 School Presidents and 330+ Class Reps, whilst working closely on a range projects with several members of key University staff in the Principal's Office. I also served as a charity trustee of both the Students’ Association and the University of St Andrews.
School President Of Chemistry
I was elected by my fellow peers for the position of School President of Chemistry in the University of St Andrews Students' Association Elections. I successfully ran my own campaign during the election period, participating in hustings and promoting my manifesto. My main role as School President was to represent all the students within the department, acting as a communications bridge between the student and staff bodies. I managed a team of Class Reps within the department to aid in gathering feedback and identifying potential issues. I chaired the Staff Student Consultative Committee in which myself, the Class Reps and academic members of staff gather to discuss this feedback. As a School President I met with the Faculty Presidents, the other School Presidents and the Director of Representation regularly at Education Committee meetings to address thematic concerns and issues that are identified in multiple subjects across the University. I also worked alongside the Proctor, the Deans of Arts & Divinity and Science, and the Rector at the School Presidents' Forum.
Summer Research Student
After securing funding from the chemistry department by submitting a proposal, I worked as a summer project student under the supervision of Professor Sharon Ashbrook. This research continued on from my senior honours project, in which oxygen-17 enriched metal-organic frameworks were studied using solid-state NMR and powder X-ray diffraction techniques. I created and presented a poster on my research for the 2016 Centre for Magnetic Resonance Conference at St Andrews. Applications to analyse these materials at national facilities including the UK 850 MHz High-Field Solid-State NMR Facility (Warwick), the UK Dynamic Nuclear Polarization Solid-State NMR Facility (Nottingham) and synchrotron diffraction (Oxford) were outlined and submitted as part of the project, all of which were successful.
