Secret ClearanceProject Management• Manage schedule and budget for execution of multiple projects for the Navy (NAVSEA 05T) each on the order of $400K.• Foster cross-organization collaboration via projects, e.g., multiple NAVSEA branches as well as external government labs.• Work with sponsors to define appropriate project scope and propose additional project work.• Deliver regular status updates and compile final reports capturing all relevant information from the project.• Work with external vendors to fabricate and characterize test components.• Collaborate with internal APL resources including the AM fabrication team, machine shop, mechanical designers, and materials characterization engineers to complete projects.Research & Development• Act as a task lead and/or technical resource on projects ranging from metal AM (LPBF, binder jet, wire DED) to soft materials (foams, hydrogels) and interact with government and defense organizations, academic institutions, independent research labs, and industry partners.• Propose and execute smaller scale projects to improve testing workflow and data capture, including improved utilization of the Ansys MI Granta materials database.• Utilize existing and develop new test methods and fixtures to execute mechanical testing ranging from routine, standard testing to complex test setups for large scale or non-standard samples, and complete associated data analysis and reporting.• Operate electromechanical and servohydraulic load frames, and a rotating beam fatigue tester.• Use DAQs to capture signals from additional measurements devices including DIC cameras, clip-gage and video extensometers, thermocouples, etc.• Utilize environmental chambers for in-situ temperature control.
Additive Manufacturing Engineer
● Coordinated and ensured execution of complex hand-offs between design, build, post-process, and characterization resources for AM parts.● Assisted with novel materials process development and associated DOEs as well as alloy down-selection, including for the CHAPS-D instrument housing.● Operated laser powder bed fusion additive manufacturing systems and associated software.● Improved front-end estimations of powder use by using data collected directly from builds to replace back-of-the-envelope theoretical estimates.● Developed novel sample geometries for testing and supported the development of a novel powder analysis technology.
