Sole Engineer onboard 137ft wooden sailing ship maintaining a safe and secure vessel in local waters and offshore voyages, as well as annual haul-out and systems re-design.Engineering staff member for non-profit school operating a historic sailing ship. Mandate included long term ship maintenance consisting of systems re-design as necessary, equipment repair or replacement, new equipment selection, periodic maintenance, soliciting equipment donations from venders, reporting operations to board members and investors, as well as teaching crew members. • Maintained operations of all mechanical, electronic, HVAC, piping and sailing equipment onboard sail training ship both in port and sailing offshore. • Responsible for the safe operation of engines and generators as well as providing training to crew members in the daily operation of equipment. • Managed weekly, monthly and yearly maintenance of all equipment to U.S. Coast Guard regulations and best engineering practices. • Also served as ship’s First Mate for much of service time, with duties including teaching, mentoring and guiding crew in all facets of daily shipboard life. • Accountable for crew safety training and safety drills as well as maintenance of safety and rescue equipment. • Accrued 550+ days at sea.Key Projects:Watermaker Design: Designed, built, tested, and operated a 1200 Gallon-per-Day shipboard desalinization plant for shipboard drinking water.
