I work in the receiving department at a wholesale company . While technically my job is to unload and verify product, I also play an important role in inventory control. Being a wholesale distributor we handle hundreds of millions of dollars in product a year. Recently the company upgraded and moved into a much bigger facility which will be capable of handling almost three times the volume we currently handle. With more product it has never been more important to have an accurate, detailed account of what we have in stock. I am looking forward to having an increased role in assessing inventory. Prior to working here I worked for Iridium Satelite in the same capacity. During the time I was there I assisted in bringing the warehouse to 5s standards and consolidated three positions, inventory control, shipping, and production line employee into one position eliminating the diseconomies of scale that existed before I got there.
