Zach came in without much experience in the languages we code in or the processes we use to manage and deploy our code. One thing I learned about Zach in the first week is that he was very eager to learn and he is very thorough. In the short amount of time he has been here he has become pretty proficient in C#, ASP and SQL, learned our processes and procedures for managing software and completed all of the projects assigned to him. This can be a very intimidating task for a newly hired programmer with previous work experience however Zach succeeded in accomplishing all of this and has made it look easy. He has picked up complex ideas and procedures quickly, works well under minimum of direction, has shown the ability to think through problems to from beginning to end and has shown great initiative to learn things on his own. Zach shows the maturity of an experienced programmer. He understands that it is not just about getting the code to work but getting it to work the correct way. This includes thoroughly understanding the requirements, thoroughly testing your code and always checking with the client that you are doing things in a way that works for them. Zach doesn’t ask me how to do something, he always asks what is the best way to do it. Some of the highlights are: • The goal was for Zach to get 2 – 3 projects/tasks into production. Currently he has put 2 projects and 1 task into production and is currently working on 2 others. Each project/task given the Zach exposed him to a different area of the business and scope & complexity of these projects has increased. • Zach was given a project to create a process that checks/validation that Credit Card Fee data has successful moved and imported in PDI for the RaceWay Accounts Receivable department so that these fees can be charged to our RW Store Operators. Throughout this project Zach was very thorough and presented conditions that were missing in the original requirements. • Zach has consistently worked 8 hour days and has learned to manage his time for working on projects, support, and meeting very well." and "Zach is a intelligent, dependable and great learner. While he was working for us at RaceTrac, he showed a strong sense of not only ownership in his work, but the unique ability to grasp business and technical concepts quickly.
