Zach Borders is the CEO & Co-Founder of Civic ArtWorks, a company dedicated to empowering citizens by providing them with the tools they need to shape the future of their neighborhood. Prior to Civic ArtWorks, he was an Associate/Senior Planner + Urban Designer with the global architecture firm HOK. While there he led the master planning and design of sustainable communities throughout India and China, neighborhood regeneration projects in Chicago, and sub-urban retrofit projects throughout the Chicagoland region.Zach was recognized as a Newcity Design 50: Who Shapes Chicago 2014 honoree, Engineering News-Record Midwest 2012 “Top 20 Under 40” honoree, and in 2011 he was inducted into the Ely Chapter of Lambda Alpha International, the honorary society for the advancement of land economics. In 2010 he became the first chairman of the Auditorium Theatre Auxiliary Board whose objective is to raise awareness and generate support for the restoration and preservation of the Dankmar Adler & Louis Sullivan designed National Historic Landmark.In 2003 Zach was chosen to serve on the Board of Directors for the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU), the leading organization promoting walkable, mixed-use neighborhood development, sustainable communities and healthier living conditions. He also served as the chair for the regional chapter, CNU Illinois.He is the author of "Washington" which focuses on the historic development of his Illinois hometown and editor of "Prairie Urbanism" which showcases the built legacy of Illinois communities and includes interviews and articles written by leading urbanists from around the world, focusing on Chicago and the future of New Urbanism.He attended the University of Illinois where he received Master of Architecture, Master of Urban Planning, and Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies degrees.
