Ontario Tire Stewardship (Ots)

Toronto, Ontario

Ontario Tire Stewardship opened it's doors in September 2009 and administered the Used Tires Program for the province of Ontario. Born out of the Government of Ontario's Waste Diversion Act of 2002, OTS was the Industry Funding Organization that is charged with ensuring that Ontario's nearly 13 million tires produced annually do not end up in landfill, but instead are recycled into some very cool products and used in some very innovative ways. While at OTS, I not only had the pleasure of working with some of the best and brightest minds in environmental stewardship, but I also had the honour of leading the design, development, and business integration of TreadMarks. Quite literally the jewel in OTS' crown, TreadMarks is a custom Stewardship Resource Planning system and is the primary technology tool employed by the organization. OTS uses TreadMarks to register participants in their program, and to track the supply, collection, transportation, and processing of used tires as well as the recycled products that are made from them.Unfortunately for OTS, the Waste Diversion Act was replaced with new pieces of legislation in 2016: the Waste Diversion Transition Act and the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act. This means that sadly, the company has to close it's doors and cease operations by December 31, 2018. While this is bad news for OTS, not so much the case for TreadMarks. In fact, TreadMarks is such a robust, impressive and proven system, that the Minister of Environment and Climate Change along with OTS' oversight body, the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority, have mandated the transition of the system to Ontario's new Extended Producer Responsibility recycling scheme which is set to take effect on January 1, 2019.I'm so proud of the work we accomplished.

Director Of Technology

Kansas City, Mo

With more than $2.4 Billion in assets, the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation is the forth largest community foundation in the United States. They are recognized as being an innovative leader and highly respected cornucopia of knowledge in the charitable giving space.Being responsible for that amount of donor funding, investments and charitable contributions requires robust systems that can keep up with the volume of daily transactions and customer interactions. As GKCCF's Director of Technology, I oversaw the strategic technology direction of the Foundation in order to advance them in the areas of efficiencies and customer service. I managed the organization's Foundation Information Management System (FIMS), and was a hands-on tactical member of the team. From planning to purchasing to implementation, I was the go-to person for all things I.T. at the business. The highlight of my time at GKCCF was leading the design, development and implementation of one of the nation's first Charity Giving Card platforms. The concept was simple, but the outcome meaningful and sincere. Users can purchase a Charity Giving Card online (think of them as a retail gift card for charities and nonprofits), pick a design, add funds, and then give the card as a gift to family, friends, and associates. The card receiver then goes online and donates the value of the Charity Giving Card to any 501(c)(3) in the United States.

Senior Technical Specialist

Kansas City, Mo

In the aftermath of the Space Shuttle Challenger accident, the crew’s families came together, firmly committed to the belief that they must carry on the spirit of their loved ones by continuing the Challenger crew’s educational mission. Their efforts resulted in the creation of Challenger Center for Space Science Education. Challenger Center and its global network of Challenger Learning Centers use space-themed simulated learning and role-playing strategies to help students bring their classroom studies to life and cultivate skills needed for future success, such as problem solving, critical thinking, communication and teamwork. As the Senior Technical Specialist for Challenger Center, I was responsible for the technology, installation, and upgrade support for their world-wide network of Space Station and Mission Control simulators. I travelled the globe to oversee the installation and upgrade of Challenger Learning Centers and managed multiple support, software and hardware projects. While at the organization, I identified and implemented comprehensive technology solutions to the centers and head office, as well as oversaw the development, implementation, and training of new versions of simulation software and hardware which replaced their out-of-date legacy systems.

Information Technology Instructor / Distance Learning Coordinator

Lenexa, Ks

Brown Mackie College has been helping students change their lives through education for the past 120 years. They are a nationwide chain of community colleges in the United States that offers certificate, associate, and bachelors degree programs in a variety of career-focused areas of study, one of those being Information Technology. As an Adjunct Professor at the College, I instructed students in web page design techniques, HTML and JavaScript and taught them how to use word processing, spreadsheet and database applications at beginner, intermediate and advanced classes within their program. I also served as the school's Distance Learning Coordinator. In that role, I helped to implement a distance learning online platform for the College and helped facilitate the integration of the system into the classrooms. I trained students and faculty in the new online learning systems and helped to answer any questions as the technology was introduced to Brown Mackie's learning community.

Coordinator Of Information Technology

Olathe, Ks

RMI Media Productions, provides educational videos for schools, universities, and businesses. When I started working there, they specialized in the duplication, administration and rental of VHS cassette tapes (yes, I'm dating myself). Schools and community colleges across the country contracted RMI to manage their students' VHS course-wear requirements. RMI would make copies of VHS tapes from Beta masters, and then send them out via UPS to the students, who watched the videos instead of going into a classroom. When finished, they returned the VHS rentals to RMI, and the tapes were then put into stock to await the next rental.I managed all aspects of Information Technology for RMI and helped them transform their business from a manual VHS duplication and distribution company to an automated provider of streaming video content. In addition to coordinating the creation of the online streaming platform, I converted the videos to digital format and created interactive CD-ROMs as another method of course distribution. I was also tasked with maintaining the company’s server environment, designed and installed various company databases, and supported third-party vendor technology systems.
