Bereavement Counselor
CurrentAs a Bereavement Counselor, I help bereaved people to come to terms with their grief. I was asked by the organization to become a leader and facilitate several sessions after undergoing training. I lead sessions with up to 12 members each and conducted different activities according to a curriculum. During this role, I utilized my relationship-building and interpersonal skills to connect with members.Additionally, I helped members gain support by empowering and helping them to cultivate lasting relationships with others. By doing so, I ensured that members had a network to rely on even after counseling sessions ended. I helped the bereaved people I worked with to identify, process, and express their emotions by creating a safe space for them. I also conducted various activities to promote this, while preparing for unusual situations and adverse outcomes related to grief. During COVID-19, I shifted sessions online and maintained a friendly and safe environment despite the virtual nature of all sessions. I kept sessions productive and on track while improving members’ ability to live a fulfilling life and cope with grief.Key Skills: Counseling | Empathetic Listening | Grief Management | Creativity | Leadership | Peer Feedback
