Valparaiso University

While in this role, I was the media contact for six Division I sports at Valparaiso University: men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s swimming, and men’s and women’s track and field. My job duties included, but was not limited to: writing meet recaps, updating biographical information on the website, and nominating athletes of the week for the Horizon League and Missouri Valley Conference, coordinating interviews between coaches, student athletes and the media. The University moved into the Missouri Valley Conference at the start of the 2017-18 school year, so I would contact their office weekly to nominate a cross country runner of the week and to update season statistics. Aside from the six sports, I helped the other members of the sports media relations office with their respective sports. For home soccer matches, I would update and make copies of the game program insert, input stats on StatCrew, occasionally write the match recap. During football games, I would be the defensive caller for the StatCrew inputter, allowing me to learn the keystrokes for the software and seeing how to work it effectively. For volleyball, I would update and make copies of the game program insert, be the libero tracker or caller for the StatCrew inputter, and run statistics to the teams after the match was completed. At home baseball games, I would help spot for the statistics inputter, which I was able to learn the software from holding that job. In the office, I would update headshots for student athletes of multiple sports, create and bring up-to-date program inserts for home events, and other miscellaneous tasks that would arise within the position.

Winona Lake, Indiana

I had the assignment to create a short video highlighting all the athletic facilities for Grace's Athletic Department. The job started with filming short clips off all of the venues, using a panning motion from side-to-side or up and down to showcase all the features. After that, then used Adobe Premiere Pro to edit all the clips together, to show each field and court with the quick panning movements, while showing different aspects of the playing surface and environment. I also incorporated transitions and text graphics in the video, which tell the viewer the name of each facility. Aside from that project, I have created a short opening clip to be used during the beginning of the live-streamed home men's and women's soccer and volleyball matches, wrote bios for several athletic teams on campus for the Grace Lancers' website, updated roster and schedule information for teams, and distributed information regarding the 2017 Lancer Golf Classic. The clip was developed using Adobe After Effects. I watched an eight minute tutorial video on how to use the software program and was able to design a 20 second video for each team. The bios were for men's and women's soccer, men's and women's tennis, and volleyball. Learned how to navigate the SIDEARM sports administration page to update and add information to specific teams.
