Toronto-based designer, editor, educator, and occasional curator. I have an extensive background in communication design and critical media studies. My creative and academic work is situated at the intersection of visual art, science, and technological evolution. I'm most interested in where the boundaries between these categories dissolve. I also specialize in an understudied form of writing known as fictocriticism and have published and lectured widely on its connection to our current technology paradigm.I'm currently completing a postdoc at York University in non-profit arts publishing and working as the Managing Editor of PUBLIC Journal (est. 1988)—an interdisciplinary biannual journal of arts and culture that blends peer-reviewed articles with essays, artist projects, and poetry.Since 2012, I've taught at OCAD University (f.k.a. Ontario College of Art & Design) in the Integrated Media and Graphic Design programs. I teach both studio and seminar courses. In 2013, I co-founded KAPSULA, a digital publication for experimental art writing, and served as Managing Editor and Art Director until 2018. From 2018–2022, I also sat on the editorial board of Mechademia, a bi-annual peer-reviewed journal for studies in Asian popular cultures.I earned my PhD in English from the University of Waterloo (2023) with a specialization in critical media studies. My dissertation research was both SSHRC (Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council) and OGS (Ontario Graduate Scholarship) funded, and several portions of the thesis have been published in national and international peer-reviewed journals, including English Studies in Canada, Open Library of the Humanities, Configurations, and TEXT. Before my doctorate work, I earned an MFA in Criticism and Curatorial Practice from OCAD U (2012) with a specialization in new media curation and a BFA in Graphic Design & Illustration from the Minneapolis College of Art & Design (2006).I was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, relocating to Minneapolis, Minnesota after graduating high school. In 2010, I moved to Toronto, Canada, where I continue to live and work today. Since arriving in the 'golden horseshoe,' of Ontario, I've produced events and publications for a range of venues and institutions including the Art Gallery of Ontario, Textile Museum of Canada, Vtape, Videofag, Artscape Youngplace, the Gardiner Museum, the Gladstone Hotel, Gallery44, and Eastern Edge, among others.
