About Zack Mcintire, Ph.D., Git

I received my PhD in geosciences from the University of Washington Department of Earth and Space Sciences in 2021. While being mentored by Professor George Bergantz, I studied the dynamics of multiphase magmatic systems utilizing Computational Fluid Dynamic Discrete Element Model (CFD-DEM), field observations, and laboratory analyses (such as chemical analyses, petrography, and Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD)) on collected samples. My dissertation work developed numerical models to explore the different kinematic regimes that develop in crystal-rich magmatic gravity currents, utilized clustering analyses techniques - such as Voronoi Tessellations - to understand the spatial distribution of crystals settling in magma, and examined microstructures preserved in mafic plutonic rocks to understand melt movement in the lower mid crust.
