Zahid is a Ph.D. Candidate at the University of Miami, specializing in the field of Structural Engineering. His research work focuses on understanding the behavior of Reinforced Concrete (RC) Structures, limitations and opportunities of designing RC Structures with innovative materials, bond strength, and punching shear. He has also proposed extending the use of the strut-and-tie method in ACI 318-19 to design GFRP-RC deep members. Zahid has the privilege of designing the world's first building that was completely designed with GFRP reinforcement as per provisions of the newly published ACI 440.11 Building Code, in collaboration with Trussoni Architecture Group. This is a groundbreaking achievement that demonstrates his expertise and innovation in the field of structural engineering. Based on the understanding developed during the design of the three-story GFRP-RC residential building, he wrote seven articles that address the limitations, opportunities, and methods to optimize the design. Zahid is well-versed in several codes and standards, including ACI 318-19, ACI 440.11, TMS 402/602-22, ASCE 7-16, AISC, and Canadian CSA S806-12. His knowledge of multiple codes defines his comprehensive understanding of designing structures.Currently, he is working on a re-assessment of the two-way shear and development length equations in ACI 440.11 Building Code to improve and refine the existing code provisions, thereby, contributing to the development of industry. Further, he is preparing design examples on hybrid RC members (i.e., steel and GFRP reinforcement) to be included as a chapter in the next edition of ACI 440.11, and Saudi Building Codes (SBC). Zahid is a student member of ACI Committee 440, and joint ACI-ASCE Committee 445. He was a speaker at several ACI and ASCE conferences and seminars presenting his research work over the years. Zahid has reviewed several documents published by ACI Committee 440 and TMS (The Masonry Society).
