I reviewed the upcoming provincial curriculum and textbooks in Punjab to assess the presence and opportunities for fostering life skills. Often used interchangeably with "21st century skills", the term life skills refers to a range of cognitive, personal and interpersonal competencies such as communication and negotiation, empathy, critical thinking and problem-solving, self awareness and management. Based on a comprehensive review of the curricular documents and textbooks for English, Urdu, Social Studies and Science, I:• Proposed the addition of social-emotional skills, financial literacy skills, career readiness skills and context-specific topics (physical and sexual abuse, bullying, early child marriages, adolescence, protection of women and marriage rights, including population planning decisions and resisting drugs and crime)• Recommended learning outcomes and sources that textbook and curriculum developers could use to develop materials that help develop life skills in students across primary and secondary gradesA draft of the report is attached.

I developed a strategy for reforming the public secondary education system of a province. The envisioned objective of the reform was to increase capacity and develop a learning infrastructure that prepared young people for work and life. To formulate my recommendations, I :• Benchmarked secondary curriculum from Pakistan against curricula from Germany, Singapore, India and Cambridge International Examinations • Conducted research into international systems of general, technical and vocational education to develop recommendations for reform • Assessed a sample of teachers to evaluate their capability in STEM-based subject content knowledge and pedagogy • Developed a strategy to expand access through public-private partnerships, distance-learning programs and double-shifting • Analyzed large data sets on enrollment, staff and facilities to develop a plan for future financial outlays and resource-allocation for the province

I worked with the provincial teacher training body of a large public school system (50,000+ schools) to evaluate the quality of professional development provided to teachers. For this project, I:•Identified gaps in training offerings based on analysis of existing training programs, a needs-analysis survey, research and international norms •Generated feedback from 1000+ trainees in over 200 training sessions: -Designed instruments and rubrics to evaluate sessions and gather feedback -Trained field observers in observation protocols•Presented a report on improving training content and trainer quality

Managed the development and roll-out of textbooks, teacher guides and training material for over200K teachers and 2 million Grade 2 and 3 students: •Conducted an in-depth analysis and benchmarking of textbooks from Finland, Singapore, USand Pakistan to identify areas of improvement•Recruited and managed a team of external consultants to develop material for textbooks•Designed protocols and coordinated field-testing of textbook drafts across 300 classroomsthrough a field implementation team•Conducted quality assurance reviews of the materials developed by the team•Trained 250+ Master Trainers on teaching reading through a phonics-based approach

• Supported senior bureaucrats and education managers in improving governance and accountability of schools by using independently collected data• Ensured the fidelity of implementation of interventions designed by the central team• Coached field-based education officers through joint field-visits to strengthen their monitoring and management skills
