About Zaid Ashraf Rana

I am currently working as a Manager Process Engineering at Engro Corp. Here, I am responsible to contribute as a process engineer in capital projects, perform FEED studies, and to provide technical support to group companies of Engro.Previously, I worked at Thar Power - SECMC and FFBL. At FFBL, I was responsible for day-to-day monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing diammonium phosphate (DAP) and Urea plants. I worked as a project team member for decommissioning, rehabilitation, and commissioning of old 5000 tons double-walled ammonia storage tank. My major achievement is the successful completion of 5000 MT Ammonia Storage Tank Project at FFBL-Pakistan as a lead Process Engineer. I was responsible for reviewing all the process related documents such as, PFDs, P&IDs, operating and control philosophies, logic diagrams, datasheets, flare calculations, boil-off calculations, and fire safety calculations. I made major contributions in the preparation of hydrostatic test, pneumatic test and commissioning procedures. I led and successfully completed the hydrostatic and pneumatic tests of the tank and the commissioning activity.As a researcher, I am interested in complex nonlinear and mixed-integer programming problems concerning real-world scenarios. I have developed a linearization strategy, which is published in my research paper "Computational Experience with Piecewise-Linear Relaxations for Petroleum Refinery Planning". I investigate various decision making problems in Industry 4.0 and Society 5.0 using Industrial Modelling Programming Language (IMPL), GAMS, and Python programming. I am also interested in exploring the machine learning (ML) applications in industrial and real-life problems.I am skilled in programming languages: Python, MATLAB, GAMS, IMPL, and Microsoft Excel VBA.I am skilled in chemical engineering software: Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, Aspen EDR, HTRI, and Pipe Flow Expert.
