Zamaan Qureshi is an activist and advocate for safer social media for teenagers and young people. His work focuses on the intersection between social media and technology, and policy and legislation. He serves as co-chair of the Design It For Us coalition; a member of the Real Facebook Oversight Board; and a member of the Council for Responsible Social Media.Zamaan led the successful FOIA of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, leading to the discovery that Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg knew and did not disclose that Cambridge Analytica was a potential election concern. Zamaan also spearheaded the exposure of Facebook’s data collection on its users and pulled back the curtain on Facebook’s lobbying through his work on The Facebook Receipts, a project of The Citizens, designed to expose Facebook’s activity in Washington D.C. and around the globe as it attempts to influence legislation and regulation.In 2023, President Biden invited Zamaan to White House events on advancing mental health access and the signing of an executive order on artificial intelligence. He has testified in state legislatures like Vermont and Illinois supporting state-based legislation.Zamaan has written for publications including TIME, Slate, and Tech Policy Press, and has been featured by outlets including MSNBC, The Washington Post, CNN, POLITICO, Forbes, Business Insider, Gizmodo, and Axios. He is a graduate of American University, where he earned a B.A. in international studies and political science. He served as Head Delegate to American University's Model UN and led the team to a historical number-one ranking in the continent for the 2021-2022 school year.
