I am a Biosystems Engineer and a researcher focusing on highly-engineered agricultural environments, specifically vertical farms and greenhouse production systems. I earned both of my engineering degrees from Auburn University, where I continue to work as a full-time staff member keeping the ball rolling for all the brilliant minds housed within the Corley building. My time in research has been both personally and professionally developmental, thanks in large part to all of my extremely knowledgeable and supportive coworkers who are always ready to help me find a way out of the learning curve. Really, most of this just means that I'm professionally (well, most of the time) curious, which extends beyond my working hours. I'm a bookworm and an audiobook enthusiast, and plan on getting into beekeeping sometime in the near future. I meditate daily and value emotional intelligence and openness in the workplace.

Research EngineerAuburn University Sep 2023 - PresentAuburn, Alabama, United StatesI work as a Research Engineer handling prototyping, logistics, and day to day operations for around 75 researchers. We design mechanical, electrical, biological, and digital prototypes, handling everything from the preliminary 2AM "can you guys build" email, to end user support. I also spend a decent amount of time going out and recruiting potential students, trying to expose people from traditionally non-ag backgrounds to the opportunities available in Biosystems Engineering, something I'm pretty passionate about. We've worked on everything from cryogenic transfer systems to coupled aquaponics systems to treadmills for cockroaches. The novelty is engaging. -
Graduate Research AssistantAuburn University Aug 2021 - Aug 2023Auburn, Alabama, United StatesI've been lucky to have the chance at Auburn University to perform impactful research, under my supportive advisors Dr. Brendan Higgins and Dr. Daniel Wells. My research focuses on a project we lovingly call Poultryponics, which takes post-processing poultry wastewater and magically transforms it into organic fertilizer for the production of leafy greens under sole-source lighting. It's been frustrating, exhausting, educational, and life-changing, and I hate to say it but I wouldn't trade it for any other opportunity in the last two years. There should be a more in depth view of what skills I learned exactly later in my profile. -
Summer InternTanimura & Antle May 2021 - Aug 2021Livingston, Tennessee, United StatesI was lucky to have the opportunity to be involved with the growing and production teams within one of the world's largest hydroponic operations specializing in deep-water culture. This opportunity was provided to me through the STARs program within the SEPC, and gave insight into commercial level production during the stresses of COVID-19. Supplies were short and sales were high. Would *grow* again. As a side note, I've now killed more lettuce than an average American can even visualize existing and can ID cultivars in the grocery store.
