Profile bio

About Alexandra Wong

Hi! I am Alexandra "Zandy" Wong (she/her/hers). I recently graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a B.A. in Public Health Studies. Outside of class, my research focuses on exploring the intersection of public health and neuroscience to create a world where accessibility is universal and having a disability is celebrated within the Hopkins School of Medicine and the Bloomberg School of Public Health. In my free time, I am a disability advocate. I'm an internationally recognized speaker, sharing my story of growing up with hearing loss on the TEDx stage and industry panels to encourage acceptance and inclusion of people with disabilities. I help build inclusive communities for youth with disabilities as the founder of the NextGen Accessibility Initiative. I can also be found advocating for policies that make the world fully accessible and inclusive for people with disabilities at the state and federal levels. My work in both science and policy has been recognized by Cochlear Americas and the American Association for People With Disabilities. My story and advocacy efforts have also been featured in international news coverage from Teen Vogue, NBC News, and the Washington Post. My hobbies include watching figure skating and scouting out local Baltimore bakeries for cream puffs. Starting in October 2024, I will be studying at the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. Follow along my journey as a researcher and disability advocate who sometimes also tweets about figure skating, cream puffs, and tennis at @ZdawgWong on Twitter.
