If there was a problem, you worked out a way to fix it. And you always made sure you were having fun while doing it. I was brought up on a remote cattle station - we worked hard & Dad always talked about producing value. I was taught that a good business provided its customers with value.At 14, I wanted a car of my own, so I pulled a 1976 HJ Holden from the dump yard & set about restoring it. I recruited a mechanically-minded jackaroo to help me understand the workings of the engine & by trial and error, I got that car started. She ran like a dream. It had bench seats, a column shift and I did my first burnout in that car!A few years ago, I was working full-time, 12 hr shifts, 3 days a week, as an Intensive Care Nurse. I also worked through nursing agencies to supplement my income. After 8 years of nursing, I started to feel unfulfilled & wanted to make a greater impact. I'd also experienced the disconnect between agencies, nurses, hospital & patients. An interesting dynamic played out each time an agency nurse arrived on shift which didn’t make sense to me. There was no value – for healthcare practitioner, hospital or patient. I knew that hospitals were paying hefty agency fees for nurses whom they knew very little about, and had no choice over whom they were given, so hospitals couldn’t effectively utilise the unique skills & experience of their agency nurses.
