Aug 2022 - Present

Driving Simulation Researcher

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

In this position, I have been working alongside a number of collaborators (including engineers, scientists, and doctors) to author a paper on a novel high-fidelity driving simulation framework that targets and elucidates cannabis-induced impairment. This work has been published in a peer-reviewed MDPI journal.

Jun 2019 - Aug 2021

Virtual Reality Simulation Analysis Researcher (Driverlab)

Toronto, Canada

The main goal of this research position was to study the cognitive effects of marijuana use and design a virtual reality driving simulation that can test relevant hypotheses. This position also provided the opportunity to develop MATLAB scripts that extract simulator kinematics data and analyze big data to identify patterns and calculate relevant outputs.

Apr 2018 - May 2019

Computational Fluid Dynamics Thesis Student

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Under the supervision of Professor David W. Zingg at UTIAS, I performed an 8-month undergraduate research thesis on an active research area within the domain of computational aerodynamics, namely the prediction of transonic buffet. Buffet is an unsteady phenomenon characterized by high-frequency lift oscillations and self-sustained periodic motion of shock wave location over an aircraft wing.In order to address the research gap in inexpensive computational tools which predict buffet onset accurately and reliably, this thesis focused on three main objectives. The first objective is to numerically reproduce buffet mechanisms, such as spanwise convection of pressure fluctuations, shock-boundary layer interaction, and periodic shock oscillations, which have been experimentally and numerically investigated by others. The second objective is to determine the buffet onset boundary for a 3D wing geometry at a range of operating conditions within reasonable accuracy. Third, this work investigates the ability of steady CFD simulations to capture buffet onset precursors in the transonic flow regime.

Systems Architecture And Engineering Intern

Toronto, Canada Area

There are two aspects of my position at Safran Landing Systems, systems architecture and systems engineering. For the first aspect, I have the opportunity to create conceptual models of the landing gear system of the Aerion AS2 Supersonic Jet in SysML using the IBM Rational Tool Suite (i.e. Rhapsody, Rational Team Concert, Rational Publishing Engine, Rhapsody Model Manager, and Jazz). This includes modelling the hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical interfaces within the Brake Control Subsystem, as well as the external interfaces to other subsystems within the landing gear and other systems on the aircraft. Developing the Change and Configuration Management framework for the architecture and requirement platform was also a task that I am heavily involved in. This role gives me the chance to present our modelling framework and workflow to Safran executives in Canada and abroad. The second aspect of my internship involves change management, aircraft investigations, and requirements management. Firstly, change management deals with the centralized tracking of change requests to and from our company with respect to suppliers or customers, so as to ensure timely and organized responses. Secondly, aircraft investigations deal with problem reports issued by our customers regarding the performance of the landing gear systems we have designed and implemented on aircraft. Through the analysis of Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) and Flight Test (FT) data, as well as discussions with various departmental leads around the company and suppliers, potential solutions to the problem are proposed. Lastly, requirements management deals with any validation and verification analysis that needs to be performed on our systems specifications, so as to ensure all of our decisions are justified and traceable in the event of an audit.

Aug 2019 - Aug 2020

Computational Aerodynamics Researcher

Toronto, Canada Area

My main research project involved performing analysis of shock-induced flow separation using steady and unsteady aerodynamic simulations during transonic wing design. It also involved creating an implementation of a buffet onset predictor that is intended to be used as a constraint in transonic wing design. My secondary project was to verify our group's implementation of the NASA Rogallo method for generating Homogeneous Isotropic Turbulent (HIT) velocity fields, and calculating the 3D energy spectrum of the resulting real-world field. This work was performed under the supervision of Professor D. W. Zingg at the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies.
