I provided strategic and operational support to the Bank's ongoing efforts to build "transformative energy partnerships" as the cornerstone of the institutional strategy to light up and power Africa. My work included mapping existing concessional & commercial resources to meet the capital demand for energy project preparation, construction and refurbishment. In addition, I developed policy reform options to ensure that the Bank is best-positioned to channel catalytic resources from public and private sector partners. I also co-led formulation of a new strategy for the Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA), based on institutional policy reforms, market conditions and donor preferences.

I restructured upstream project preparation support (including grant instruments, procurement approaches, and internal/external coordination mechanisms) provided by the AfDB to make renewable energy and energy efficiency projects "bankable." My work was focused on scaling up and improving coordination among existing advisory and capacity building facilities (total funding around USD 350 million) managed by the AfDB, as well as building/strengthening external partnerships with other preparation facilities. I convened a meeting for many of the partner facilities on the periphery of the 2017 Africa Energy Forum (see outcomes brief below).
