As a kid, I was passionate about three things: Designing and creating with LEGOs, growing and enjoying food, and being out in the woods and creeks near our house. As an adult, not much has changed. I've simply traded my building blocks for concrete and steel, my garden and kitchen for greenhouses and restaurants, and my woods and creeks for forests and rivers. Those childhood passions are what drive me to this day. They drive me to design a world where grand cities don't mean polluted skies or crowded roads, where affordable and nutritious food doesn't mean high prices and heavy pollution, and clean water is a right - indoors and outdoors. It's an optimistic goal - but hey - when you're young and hungry, optimism is what's for breakfast. I love working with big-picture ideas and systems comprised of civil, environmental, electrical, mechanical, and agricultural engineering components; as well as the masters of those fields. Some people like to call me a "Zach of all Trades." It's not that I don't know what I want to do, it's that I recognize the scale of my mission. I know that it takes more than just an engineer to solve the most pressing environmental issues of our time. It is with that goal in mind that I've worked to develop my skills in various engineering disciplines, agro-ecosystem management, green infrastructure, management and leadership, writing and speaking, logistics, data collection and analysis, CAD, hands-on construction, permitting, and whatever else lands on my plate.Throughout my work and education experience, I've strived to develop myself into an effective and diverse engineer. I am always looking to work with and learn from those around me, whatever their field of expertise may be. I hope to continue this as I work towards becoming a valuable project manager that can collaborate effectively with the diverse groups of engineers and scientists that are working to solve these problems as well.
