DMAT CO-2 (Disaster Medical Assistance Team Colorado-2) is a group of professional and para-professional medical personnel (supported by a cadre of logistical and administrative staff) designed to provide medical care during a disaster or other event. Our mission is to provide emergency medical care and to augment local medical capabillities when needed during times of disaster. Examples of such include: hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, epidemics, floods, or other devastating events including acts of terrorism.NDMS (National Disaster Medical System) recruits personnel for specific vacancies, plans for training opportunities, and coordinates the deployment of the teams.DMATs are designed to be a rapid-response element to supplement local medical care until other Federal or contract resources can be mobilized, or the situation is resolved. DMATs deploy to disaster sites with sufficient supplies and equipment to sustain themselves for a period of 72 hours while providing medical care at a fixed or temporary medical care site. These sites may include tents or existing clinics or hospitals. In some cases, we may be involved with the transfer of victims from air transport to ground services, then onward to definitive care facilities. The personnel are activated for a period of two weeks.DMAT CO-2 consists of 100-150 medical professionals and support staff organized and trained to activate a deployment team of 50 personnel within 8 hours of notification. Upon arrival at a scene, we will work with other DMATs from across the country as well as with additional federal, state and local disaster teams to triage and treat victims at casualty collection points and provide medical care at staging and reception sites.
