Radio News For Safm

• In this junior management position, I managed a team of about five people, where we were required to produce and manage current affairs shows such as AM live with the late Xolani Gwala and Midday Live with Bongi Gwala. • The position required working on strict time schedules and liaising with various organizations, high – profile politicians and stakeholders as well as civil society and research organizations. The shows deal with various issues including politics, social, economic, environmental and health. • This position also entailed managing junior staff in terms of accuracy of their facts, well-written and researched scripts and ensuring that all items produced are clear and concise. It also required managing the presenter on –air and adhering to time constraints for news, traffic, sport and commercials. • As Senior Producer, I was also required to liaise with the digital department to ensure that interviews were placed online. Content is thus produced for broadcast and online as well as in some instances print.

Channel Africa

• This programme is broadcasted live from Monday to Thursday at 11am up and until 12 noon. The programme is in talk –show format discussing gender, health, politics and good governance as well as environmental affairs. It involves panel discussions on hard and soft issues and has been on air for the past three years. The show is self-produced and presented. • Over the three year period, the programme has included, as guests, former presidents, ambassadors, non-governmental organizations, think tanks, analysts and experts from a variety of fields on diverse topics. • I also produced and presented Africa This Week which airs on weekends on Channel Africa. • This programme looks at a roundup of African issues that made headlines during the week.

Channel Africa Radio Service

In this role, I travelled extensively to various parts of the world to raise awareness and shed light on issues of global interest. These include and not limited to the impact of war, climate change, food security and gender -based violence among others. Many of these travels were because of relationships with civil society organizations and the United Nations.• Gaza: January 2009 – Assigned to the occupied territory for ten days in the aftermath of the twenty – two day war between Hamas of the Gaza Strip and Israel. Reported live each day of the assignment and also filed pre-recorded material to be used during news bulletins and other programmes.• Elections 2009 – Reported from Pretoria at the Election Centre during South Africa’s democratic elections. In addition to reporting, Channel Africa also occupied a studio from which African Dialogue was produced and presented from.• Copenhagen Climate Change Summit: Denmark 2009 – Reported live and packaged current affairs material during the Copenhagen Climate Change summit. Packages included issues pertaining predominantly towards Africa. Attended the summit for the full duration and was the sole reporter for Channel Africa. This experience also allowed me to gain insight and knowledge on environmental issues and how they interrelate politically, socially and economically. This experience has also assisted me with the Thursday African Dialogue Programme which focuses on environmental and wildlife issues. Taking on the environment beat has been challenging and rewarding where we have also touched on issues of food security, the possible war over water, climate change, biomimicry as well as renewable energy vs. fossil fuels amongst others. • Egypt / Gaza 2010 – Assigned to Egypt as part of the South African delegation to report on the Gaza Freedom March.
