About Zelda Weitz

I am the one you parachute in to start something new or to find a solution to a crisis. I am a problem-solver, creative thinker and a planner. I have lived in, worked in and traveled to 30 countries in Africa. My life is an accumulation of experiences, events, projects, meetings and challenges across continents, that moulded me into a resilient and adaptable person. I have interviewed Presidents, drank tea with a Prime Minister, crossed the mighty Congo River in a small boat several times, once with a famous Ambassador, got threatened and held by the military, stopped by police, negotiated and presented projects and plans in fancy boardrooms and in huts, and have enough stories to write a book (I will). I survived a Cat-5 hurricane in 2017 and have some survival notes to share. I know my wines and can talk about wine barrels, but I am equally comfortable on horseback or with a fencing sword. Now that I have your attention, I am only human and I just like to get things done. As the COO of MyHydro, an innovative and transformational water-to-wire utility investment firm, I am responsible for the overall vision, management, and strategic leadership for new projects and business development focused on Africa. With over 10 years of experience in the infrastructure sector, I have a passion for bringing affordable and renewable power to off-grid communities in the continent, using next-generation, fish-safe, low-head, hydropower turbines.I lead a dynamic and diverse team of professionals across large geographies, working in remote and challenging locations. I oversee the development process of projects and identify adjustments in scope and operations to ensure that they adapt to changes in need and context. I also establish and optimize the operational performance and processes of the company, in close partnership with the CEO, to meet both client and financial expectations. I have a proven track record of creating new markets, driving business growth, and coordinating country-specific business models and strategies in emerging markets, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa. Thanks to my strong communication and consultative skills, I can engage effectively with various stakeholders, from government officials to business partners, and deliver world-class events, media, and PR campaigns.
