I am an interdisciplinary academic who applies machine learning to healthcare data to improve service delivery. My academic career began in Organisation Psychology with a PhD from Birkbeck College, London. I taught HRM and careers at the University of Reading, and published in top peer-reviewed journals in business. Over the past five years, drawing on my background in programming and systems analysis, I have built a new expertise applying data science and machine learning to healthcare data. I now work as a researcher and data scientist at UCL, applying machine learning to help UCLH (the hospital trust) predict short-term demand for hospital beds. During a break from academia I co-founded Personal Boardroom - a practical simple way to develop your network.

Research FellowUcl Sep 2020 - PresentAs the latest step in my career change towards being a health data scientist, I'm now back in academia, working with the Clinical Operational Research Unit at UCL. I'm applying machine learning (ML) to real-time data to help UCL Hospital (UCLH) manage resources. I built an application that uses data from the electronic health record in real-time, to predict how many patients will be admitted from the Emergency Department in the next 4-8 hours. Our paper on this has recently been published in a Nature journal. I'm now working with a team from UCL and UCLH who are using ML to predict use of intensive care resources. -
