As the latest step in my career change towards being a health data scientist, I'm now back in academia, working with the Clinical Operational Research Unit at UCL. I'm applying machine learning (ML) to real-time data to help UCL Hospital (UCLH) manage resources. I built an application that uses data from the electronic health record in real-time, to predict how many patients will be admitted from the Emergency Department in the next 4-8 hours. Our paper on this has recently been published in a Nature journal. I'm now working with a team from UCL and UCLH who are using ML to predict use of intensive care resources.

With Amanda Scott, I co-founded Personal Boardroom, a company that helps people design and build the network they need to succeed. We work with companies to develop their employees into people who surround themselves with diverse thinking and have impact on their world.We have a set of tools that people develop their personal boardroom, including a free online tool and our book "Who is in your Personal Boardroom? How to choose people, assign roles and have conversations with purpose" (free on Kindle and Apple books)

I'm concerned about the future care needs of a growing, ageing society, so I worked with Care City, an innovation unit in East London for a couple of years. My role was to apply apply strategic thinking and analysis to the challenges faced by the health and care system, to help find solutions for healthy ageing and local regeneration.

As an Executive Fellow at Henley Business School, I was involved with executive education and as a contributor to Henley's work to promote women in leadership.

I worked at Henley Business School, University of Reading, as an academic member of faculty. During my 12 years there I taught HRM to undergraduate and post-graduate students, supervised seven PhD students to successful completion, ran the doctoral programme in management, was Director of a Centre for Career Management Skills, and ran courses for executives. My research on networks and careers has been published in top academic journals, including: Management Science, Human Relations, Human Resource Management, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Research Policy, and Journal of Management Studies.

I was - and continue on an ad-hoc basis - to be Know Innovation's social networks expert, throwing myself energetically into anything that involves connecting people, cementing links across disciplines, and building communities to accelerate the spread of ideas.

Research on networks in the emerging field of plastic electronics, with a practical focus on building the UK's capacity for innovation in plastic electronics.

Led a team of designers, writers and careers experts. We developed a web-based career learning resource called Destinations, which has been sold to over 35 universities in the UK and Ireland.
