Tienda Pago was my first experience with a foreign company without a headquarters in Guatemala. In this company, I held the position of Data Engineer (Middle Level). My job involved creating new data models, primarily for the finance department. The data warehouse was managed in Microsoft's SQL Server and the ETL processes were carried out using Microsoft's Integration Services. We also worked with tabular cubes in Microsoft's Analysis Services and visualizations were done in Power BI. This was my first time working with Power BI, so I learned a lot about this tool.Part of my job in creating models included performing various types of complex analyses and simplifying them so they could be stored in tables, embedded in cubes, and finally displayed on Power BI dashboards.

After my career break, I got my first opportunity to work in English at Conduent Guatemala, serving as a Business Analyst. This role significantly enhanced my skills. My job involved receiving large volumes of data in flat format, cleaning it, ensuring its consistency and reliability, and passing the request to the database team to load it into the corresponding tables. After the load, it was also my responsibility to verify that all the data was free of inconsistencies.When I started, the job was very manual, so I began implementing processes to automate much of the work. I started with load processes programmed in R, the language I knew at the time, and also used SQL Server procedures to verify that the loads matched the raw data provided and to analyze transformations. Later on, I began experimenting with Python, as it seemed a much more robust language, and implemented automatic processes using Python. After implementing these automatic processes, we gained a considerable amount of free time that could be used for other types of analysis.

My experience at Tigo Guatemala was very interesting, as I was assigned to provide information to the technical area, requiring the information to be always available and accessible. In this position, I had the opportunity to learn the R programming language and develop dashboards using RStudio as the IDE, employing the Shiny framework to visualize analyses. Additionally, I aimed to automate the delivery of files with necessary data for decision-making as much as possible, which allowed me to further enhance my SQL skills, with queries being performed in Oracle since the data warehouse was based on that technology. My job involved receiving requirements, creating dashboards, or automating data deliveries.

At Banco Promerica, I worked as a Business Intelligence Analyst. My responsibilities were not only analytical but also included maintaining the data warehouse to ensure data reliability and availability on a daily basis. This involved modifying existing OLAP cubes, creating new cubes as needed, and maintaining the existing ETL, which was built with Microsoft's Integration Services. If a new module was required, I added it to the ETL, feeding staging tables that underwent cleaning processes before entering the data warehouse. When no new modules were needed, my job involved data analysis and delivering reports primarily through Reporting Services. During this time, I gained significant experience with Microsoft SQL and started creating SQL queries for Oracle. Most of my assignments came from the bank's compliance and financial departments.

Alimentos S.A. is a food production company, mainly producing atoles, snacks, and cereals. In this role, my job was to generate data visibility for the production plant. I extracted data from packaging machines, such as the number of packages per minute and the type of snack, to create a dashboard with real-time visibility of each production line's goals. This role required coordination with various departments, such as infrastructure for creating the internal network and server administration for hosting the information. I also coordinated with external vendors to obtain modules for data extraction from the machines. My duties included coordinating all the above tasks, building the architecture to store the information, and finally developing the dashboard.

This was my first position in the field of software engineering and development. The company had various systems programmed in-house for internal use, such as vacation control systems, medical clinic inventory, payroll, and human resources. These systems were modular and primarily developed with C#, mostly as web systems. The database was managed with Microsoft SQL Server, and Reporting Services was used for certain reports. I spent nearly 3 years in this role, gaining extensive experience with SQL, stored procedures, functions, and queries, as well as creating models to house system data. My duties included receiving requirements, creating database models and diagrams, developing web applications once approved, and if necessary, setting up automated emails or reporting in Reporting Services for new modules. Additionally, I maintained existing modules.

My job consisted of receiving calls from all over Guatemala and helping people resolve conflicts, mainly with their internet service. The call center provided services to Claro Guatemala, a telecommunications company. Claro's customers who contacted customer service spoke with us about their internet, satellite TV, or coaxial TV issues. The most frequent problem was the internet. I provided support by guiding the customer through basic checks such as physical connections, network configurations on their computers, router reboots, and also set-up box configurations for their TVs. I tried to resolve the conflict over the phone as much as possible. If it couldn't be resolved, I would log a request for a technician visit, as it usually required an on-site service.
