About Zeriyah Griffin

Hi, my name is Zeriyah Griffin, and I am a Senior Public Health student at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. I have successfully completed my first mother baby clinical rotation and was able to utilize and learn skills in communication, taking manual blood pressure, pulses, and beginning injections. I was also able to also able to shadow nurses, lactation consultants, and medical assistants, which was imperative to getting to know the diverse staff in every medical environment. During this clinical rotation while I learned a lot of skills, I was also able to explore my passion which is holistic care. Making these connections with patients and delivering effective and efficient services at an early stage in my career makes me confident that I will be able to continue to make these contributions in health, including in my own community. I had also completed an internship at the Mary Eliza Mahoney Health Center where I was able to speak to doctors regarding my interest in paediatrics and OB. Communicating with these health professionals made me realize just how flexible the career of nursing and public health is meaning that one’s contributions never has to be limited to one unit. Utilizing a caring approach, I believe I have much to offer to the medical field, especially in family medicine. This passion is based on the meaningful conversations I was able to engage in with the patients I looked after, including my personal experiences with family deaths and being that primary caretaker among the elders in my family. They looked up to me as someone who would make sure they’re medical needs were met and I hope that in the future I can do the same for my patients. I am currently looking for a summer internship that will allow me to grow in my career, as well as connect and network with like-minded individuals. After I graduate I hope to continue my path and pursue a BSN.
