As an elected official for the Walnut Creek School District, the position is one of five Board of Education members/trustees. Together with the Superintendent, the school board's role is to ensure that the school district is responsive to the values, beliefs and priorities of the Walnut Creek community.

I support school districts to reimagine their student's school meal experience. I have conducted workshops, trainings, and support with core business functions. I have also lead more in depth redesign projects, such as Walnut Creek's School Lunch Experience project. Past and current clients include: Acalanes Union High School District, Walnut Creek School District, Oakland Unified School District, & Lodi Unified School District.

I've focused on design and implementation of child nutrition programs for public school districts and Charters (detailed below), as well as development and sharing of best practices via webinars, teacher and nutrition staff training, development of operations guides, and presenting at conferences.- In 2021, built a Community Eligibility Provision Calculator, a dynamic financial model to assess the feasibility for districts to implement the Community Eligibility Provision. Hosted two webinars to train national partners and districts on how to independently utilize. - In 2018, designed and implemented a mobile serving golf cart for secondary schools. The prototype testing was at Logan High School, Union City Ca. - In 2017, developed a Breakfast in the Classroom Teacher Quickie Guide, which has been used by districts across the nation. - From December 2017 to April 2018, designed and implemented 23 Breakfast After the Bell programs at the Oakland Unified School District, resulting in an 83% increase in the daily number of students eating breakfast at those schools.- Panelist on national webinars, workshops providing technical assistance on child nutrition programs. - Provide technical feedback and guidance to dozens of No Kid Hungry grantees.- Provide technical assistant and coaching to national No Kid Hungry staff.

A Better Course’s mission is to improve the nutrition children receive so they grow up to have happy, healthy lives. I grew the Market Match Program for the Alemany Farmers’ Market from a 12 week program, $10,000 budget to operate year round, with a budget over $200,000. Developed a Covid-19, turnkey Lunch In the Classroom Teacher Quickie Training Guide, additionally providing technical assistance on how to implement.Summer of 2020, partnered with SF Department of Nutrition Service WIC Program to facilitate a first in the nation program which delivered 1,300 locally sourced produce boxes to WIC families. Responsible for the management of the day-to-day operations of SFUSD’s school nutrition program, the largest public meals program in the City of San Francisco serving over 6 million meals and snacks at 114 public schools throughout the city, $20 million budget with 250 staff. - 26% reduction of 2014-15 budget deficit, saving $666,499.- 13% increase in meals served during 2014-15, with 669,574 additional meals served.- 29% increase in breakfast participation during the 2014-15 SY with the design and implementation of a breakfast in the classroom program. - Launched 61 At-Risk Supper Programs serving 600,000 suppers, and increased the Summer Food Service Program by 57% during the 2014-15 SY.- Development & Public/Private Partnerships: Over $3 million in grant funding secured fromJune 2013 to June 2015.- Launched the implementation of the District’s Future Dining Experience plan, resulting in the redesign of the Middle & High School dining spaces, healthy vending, mobile carts, as well as laying the groundwork to enable new program innovations. The project earned a Golden Bell Award from CSBA in 2015. - Reclassification and reorganization of 260 cafeteria and 12 central office staff.

- Served as the District’s Project Lead on the Future Dining Experience, the strategic plan developed in partnership with innovation and design firm IDEO.- In 2010-11 SY, 27% increase in lunch participation at the middle and high schools through a redesign of the a la carte program, expanded menu choices for all students, and increased points of service.- Designed, implemented, and evaluated strategic program improvements, such as ahealthy vending program (resulting in a 17% increase in meals at school site), grab andgo breakfast at 19 Middle and High Schools, as well as on-site meal production pilot.- In 2009-10 SY, coordinated the implementation of Point of Sale Food Management software in one school year, one year ahead of what was scheduled.- Wrote and implemented a Meal Charge Policy and online prepayment system (MyPaymentsPlus), resulting in a significant decrease in meal charges over three years.- Developed detailed justification and budget proposals for program improvements, such as how to more efficiently manage labor costs through quantitative and qualitative assessments. - Successfully oversaw the training of 250 kitchen staff from paper based documentation to a new Point of Sale system. - From 2009-11, secured and managed $171,000 in grant funds for strategic projects. By 2012, the work evolved into the Future Dining Experience, which then secured $400,000 in private grant funds and over $1,000,000 of in-kind private funds.- In 2012, secured $33,810 in grant funds from the California Endowment to test a new meal production model, in partnership with the Department of Public Health.- Between 2011 & 2012, secured $194,000 in Breakfast Expansion grant funds from the California Department of Education for 10 High Schools and 10 Middle Schools.- In 2010, secured $66,000 in equipment grant funds from the USDA.
