Zhen Chen is a Software Engineer at Google. Colleagues describe him as "I am Director of Marketing & Decision Science at American Express. Zhen worked in my team for three months as a student intern during summer 2016. I assigned Zhen a highly data intensive task involving skills in Hives, Python, and Hadoop running through billions of lines of data. Zhen also built various machine learning applications while he worked with me; logistic regression, random forest, and gradient boosting methods. Thinking of Zhen after 18 months he left American Express and went back to school to finish his Ph.D., what comes to my mind is Zhen’s curiosity, creativity, programming skills, and an utmost care for quality. During our discussions, I always enjoyed his questions and his comments regarding business implications of the project on hand. He is not afraid to ask questions, which has been of immense help in shaping the project direction in the right way. Once agreed on the project goals, Zhen would find the best possible way to achieve project goals by combining his innovative thought process with his superior programming skills. He is ‘really great’ at Hives, Python, and distributed computing. What I really admired about Zhen is his attention to detail and making sure everything is buttoned up for business presentations.
