Dr. Zhen Wang joined the faculty of Biologicals Sciences at the University of Buffalo (UB), State University of New York in 2017. Her research focuses on identifying biosynthetic pathways of plant natural products and sustainable production of plant-based medicines through metabolic engineering and synthetic biology. She is also interested in investigating the trafficking of chemical intermediates during the biosynthesis of plant natural products. She has made significant contributions in the area of intracellular plant lipid trafficking during biosynthesis as well as next-generation renewable fuel production in microbial hosts through synthetic biology. Within the scope of the recently awarded UB Innovative Micro-Programs Accelerating Collaboration project, she serves as the principle investigator for the development of platform microbial strains for the high-flux production of terpenoids as the foundation for the production of terpene-based plant natural products. Her recent NSF and NIH awards focus on genome-scale metabolic modeling of plants and plant terpenoid biosynthesis and microbial engineering, respectively.Wang lab website: http://wanglabub.com
