Preclinical studies in telomerase inhibition and chemosensitization using novel synthetic oligonucleotides. (in collaboration with ISIS Pharmaceuticals, Inc.)• Investigated telomere shortening/telomerase inhibition on human prostate tumor growth using in vitro and in vivo cancer models (sc. tumor model and bone metastasis model).• Tested telomerase inhibition/telomere shortening on the effect of chemotherapeutic drugs in human prostate tumor xenograft mouse models.• Demonstrated that second-generation antisense oligonucleotides directed against the template region of telomerase are potent antiproliferative agents. • Demonstrated that anti-telomerase oligonucleotides spontaneously enter cultured cells.• Designed and synthesized antisense peptide nucleic acids (PNAs) and siRNA to alternate gene expression of hTERT.• Collaborated with Department of Urology and Department of Cell Biology investigating telomerase inhibition in human cancer therapy.
