After two years as the Senior Systems Engineer, I was promoted to lead all IT security measures for TCU. My entire efforts went to protecting the financial data and banking information from infiltration and cyber-attacks. I gained a reputation as IT-Security thought leader for successfully overseeing the security protocols for TCU, the largest regional credit union with over 50 locations. In fact, I was asked to train other NCUA members and assess their respective security measures. After taking on this role, my first order of business was to create various security measures to help monitor the systems. I designed new configurations for the firewalls and intrusion detection system, both on-premise and in the cloud. This extended the vulnerability checks and allowed me to make better anti-virus, spam, and malware tool selections.

As the Senior Systems Engineer for TCU, I sharpened my technical and leadership skills. I was the highest technical escalation point for the organization and also served as the “Blue Team” lead, a team that analyzed and assessed penetration tests and security vulnerabilities. I enjoyed not just administering and maintaining, but also enhancing the physical and virtual server infrastructure systems by configuring multiple database servers and processes. Additionally, I would thoroughly monitor the system health and performance and troubleshoot through any underlying concerns. Some specific and key achievements in this role include:● Achieved dramatic results securing an environment with over 150 penetration-test audit findings closing 95% of occurrences within a year with only five additional audit findings. ● Reduced risks due to application vulnerabilities substantially satiating organizational risk appetite for security without burdening end users with diminished functionality.● Maximized confidence in system restoration capabilities with stronger system stability by completely redesigning backup solutions using EMC Avamar and EMC Data Domain architecture. ● Expanded data storage capacity supervising five engineers during 12-hour storage-refresh project that involved replacing storage in two data centers with 400 servers, six Sans, and 140TB of data.● Grew data categorization and analysis capabilities enterprise-wide designing and employing security information and event management software for 400+ servers, 50+ appliances, and 100+ network nodes.

Grand Design RV was the fastest growing fifth-wheel manufacturer in the world with approximately $428M in annual revenues at the time I led the IT team. This was a fascinating opportunity to be involved with the security apparatus of a fast-growing company. I worked with a $1.5M budget to create an OS agnostic ecosystem using Cloud ERP and Exchange Online. To keep projects within budget I forged strong relationships with 3rd-parties and vendors helping negotiate favorable IT contracts. Lastly, I acted as the HIPAA Security Officer where I ensured compliance across the whole enterprise. A couple key achievements include: ● Increased business value authoring IT policies and security control mechanisms from scratch reducing workload of purchasing company during subsequent acquisition. ● Delivered complex ERP improvement project overcoming varying priorities and multiple departmental demands with limited programming throughput with effective cross-team collaboration.

Dutchmen MFG is a large RV manufacturer that employs over 600 people across 10 locations in three regions. Their annual revenue at the time exceeded $335M. I presided over a $750K annual budget an supervised four IT professionals. As the director I spearheaded the redesign, upgrade, and implementation of SAN configurations and BYOD security measures and policies while promoting compliance to SOX requirements and IT infrastructure controls. Key Achievements:● Saved company $100K per year successfully negotiating improved cell plans with new carrier. ● Increased storage area network performance and boosted overall storage capacity steering engineering team during redesign, upgrade, and deployment of several SAN configurations.

Before my promotion into the Director role, I spent almost three years leading the network systems admin team for Dutchmen. Together we executed several high-profile IT projects including network mergers, backup architecture design, and BI-solution configurations. I also designed a new disaster recovery data center. Additionally, I spearheaded a large project upgrading the Cisco phone system for the call center which involved implementing several diagnostic and reporting tools. Additional achievements: ● Extended usefulness of internal end-user and backend systems advancing use of self-designed hardware life expectancy elongation plan. ● Increased transfer rate ten-fold at no cost with robust re-architecting of SAN. ● Created Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) with an in-depth backup architecture capable of a seven-year data-retention combined with a 45-day data retention through a progressive incremental backup. ● Saved organization over $60K by programming a GUI from scratch for TSM environment eliminating need to purchase it via 3rd-party.
