Found my passion for computers and technology through building my first PC in the ninth grade. Ever since then, I have honed my skills in building and repairing PCs for clients. This side-job keeps me up to date with current PC hardware components being released. I have also acquired diagnostic skills when it comes to finding problems with a client's PC.

In short, L.E.A.P is a system that utilizes an LED cube to transmit data which is then captured by a camera and decoded. Started as a Systems Engineering capstone project between three friends during my fourth year at Carleton. Later expanded to a full-blown project between four members in hopes of developing proof of concept of using Li-Fi-like characteristics to send secure data in parallel using light. We are currently working on this project steadily with Professor Chung-Horng Lung from Carleton University in hopes of pursuing a published article in the IEEE journal. As for system design, I have helped developed the transmission protocols between our transmitter and receiver to allow the data flow to be efficient yet effective. The primary goal is data transfer. All data sent must be received. The secondary goal is security. Data transmitted must be converted into 3-D space (a LED cube) then be received and decoded back into the original data. The final goal is speed. Data transmissions must not be the bottleneck of our system, as the advantage of using light as a source to transmit data is because of its speed. As a developer, I have created the transmitter and receiver units that communicate with each other - implementing the protocol stated above. I implemented an FTP with TCP Handshake technique embedded with CRC32 encryption logic. This ensures all data is successfully transferred, but transmission messages are encrypted to potential Wi-Fi breaches. Another module I developed was the receiver portion of the project. I utilized Python's OpenCV library to continuously capture the LED cube and calibrate the software to the environment. The receiver is then able to read data from the cube in 3D space, understand it as 2D space then decodes it into the original 1D data. The algorithm uses a bounding box method to detect LED positions along with some geometric techniques to assign points to locations. Show less
