Zhul is a Senior Partner in the Litigation and Arbitration Group in Dentons Rodyk & Davidson LLP. He is serving as Member of the 14th Singapore Parliament representing Chua Chu Kang GRC. He is the Deputy Chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Home Affairs & Law. His main areas of practice encompass international commercial litigation and arbitration, international trade and banking and finance (both conventional and Islamic finance), admiralty and shipping. He has appeared before the Singapore courts and arbitral tribunals both in Singapore and London under the SIAC, SCMA, ICC and LCIA rules.Amongst his accolades, Zhul was listed in the Asian Legal Business 40 under 40 List of the brightest young legal minds in the region and the Singapore Business Review listed him as one of the most influential young lawyers in Singapore under the age of 40. In 2017, he was in the top 5 finalist in the Young Lawyer of the Year category of the ALB South East Asia Law Awards. In 2017, he won the Junior Chamber International Singapore: Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World Award in the category of Political, Legal and Government Affairs. Past prominent winners include Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and Dr Fatimah Lateef, amongst others.Zhul graduated from National University of Singapore in 2005 and was admitted to the Singapore Bar as an Advocate and Solicitor in Singapore in 2006. He was conferred a Certificate in Islamic Banking & Finance from the International Islamic University of Malaysia in 2009 and a Masters of Law (Islamic Law and Finance) from the Singapore Management University in 2013; a course in which he was placed on the Dean’s List for his academic excellence.Besides handling international arbitration and cross-border disputes in the energy, transport and financial services sectors, he also handles pro bono matters as an Assigned Solicitor with the Legal Aid Bureau and volunteers in legal clinics. He is a member of the Muslim Law Practice Committee of the Law Society and sits on several boards of directors of VWOs in Singapore.
