Lead the analysis of modifiable areal unit problem in testing the Income Inequality Hypothesis (IIH), which is a key hypothesis in the Social Determinants of Health literature and has been quoted extensively in public policy debates. The analysis addressed a critical aspect of the debate by examining why the Income Inequality Hypothesis fails to hold at certain geographic levels. Activities include constructing the dataset used in the analysis, developing the econometric method, and interpreting the results. A manuscript was submitted to Social Science & Medicine.2. Analyze the impact of obesity prevention services provided at local health departments. Activities include merging the NACCHO data with the BRFSS data, applying the difference-in-differences method, and interpreting the results. The research has been presented at national conferences on public health systems and services research. A manuscript is under revise-and-resubmit to Health Services Research. 3. Develop statistical inference for health achievement index. The health achievement index was proposed to balance between average levels of health and inequalities in health. The research bridged a gap in the literature by providing an analytical method of statistical inference and comparing available methods of statistical inference. A manuscript has been accepted in Health Economics.4. Provide technical assistance to the China Medical Board in assessing the impact of the national Township and Village (health services) Integration (TVI) Initiative in China. Activities including consultations for the China Medical Board and evaluating funding proposals. 5. Assist in the planning of a conference to be funded by the China Medical Board and hosted by the Emory Global Health Institute. The conference is to bring leaders of Chinese medical universities and to familiarize them with the recent development of the health policy and system sciences.
